Taraba State Governor, His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, visited Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, to intervene in the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), appealing to the lecturers to suspend the industrial action.
During the visit, Governor Kefas assured the striking lecturers that his administration was ready to address their demands, including the payment of outstanding allowances.
The Governor expressed concern over the timing of the strike, which commenced in the middle of examinations, describing the development as unnecessary in view of his administration’s efforts to address the needs of the lecturers and the institution.
To resolve the dispute, Dr Kefas disclosed that the state government had constituted a committee to examine the lecturers’ demands and review the existing salary and allowance structure.
He said the government was prepared to implement a uniform salary and allowance system in line with prevailing practices in other institutions.
Beyond the industrial dispute, the Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security at the university to ensure a safe and conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
Dr Kefas also reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning tertiary institutions across Taraba State through international partnerships, particularly in science and technology.
According to him, collaboration with foreign institutions would create opportunities for knowledge exchange, research development and the adoption of modern technologies to improve the quality of education in the state.
